This Weekend...

This weekend was the start of the hockey season which I have been so eagerly awaiting! We are in a new league this year and our first game meant travelling almost 2 hours away but it was worth it as we won 4-2. You can see how happy we are about it in our post-match selfie!

Buttercream Vintage Flower Cake

I was asked to make one of my Buttercream Flower cakes by a family friend for a birthday. This was an 8 inch, 3 layer vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and yummy raspberry jam in the middle and covered in yet more vanilla buttercream.

Buttercream Flower Cake

It was my grandma's 90th birthday recently and my parents asked me if I would make her a cake. Of course, I said yes and set about creating her a masterpiece.

I have been fascinated by Buttercream Flower Cakes since I discovered them last year and I have been slowly improving with each one I have made. I went for vintage colours to match the vintage flower style I was planning for the cake and it turned out beautifully. It took many many hours and a whole lot of buttercream but it's safe to say that she absolutely adored her cake (and it even made her cry!)

Orange and Passionfruit Layer Cake

This cake is like eating sunshine. Each bite is a bite of summer. It's super light and full of incredible flavours. I added the raspberries and pomegranate seeds to the top for a bit of extra fruit/decoration.

The recipe for the cake can be found in Layered by Tessa Huff - a current favourite of mine and full of the most delightful recipes! Buy it here. Also check out Tessa's blog stylesweetca.com for more of her wonderful creations.

Discovering Buttercream Flower Cakes

I was on holiday in Greece for two weeks when I discovered Buttercream Flower Cakes. I was lounging around by the pool in the roasting heat looking for ideas for my mum's birthday cake when I came across them and I knew that's what I had to make. My mum loves all things floral and I knew it would be perfect for her.

After a huge cake supplies order and hours of watching tutorial videos online, I was ready. For a first attempt, I think the cake went pretty damn well! My mum loved it of course and so began my obsession with Buttercream Flowers!
